TouchChat is an extensive Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) solution specifically designed for individuals who struggle with verbal communication. It caters to individuals experiencing conditions such as Autism, Down Syndrome, ALS, apraxia, stroke, and other speech-related challenges.

With TouchChat, users gain the ability to select a customized vocabulary file consisting of pages and buttons that contain words, phrases, sentences, and additional functionality. Messages can be spoken using the built-in voice synthesizer or by playing pre-recorded messages. The software offers a variety of synthesized and custom voice options to ensure users can find a voice that aligns with their personality.

This version of TouchChat includes the WordPower® series of AAC vocabularies developed by Nancy Inman. WordPower utilizes word-based vocabulary, creating an intuitive and user-friendly communication experience. TouchChat HD with WordPower is compatible across English, Spanish, and French languages and is available as a universal app supporting the iPhone®, iPod touch®, and iPad®.

In addition to the core features, the Upgrade Store offers users the opportunity to make in-app purchases for additional English vocabulary files such as Gateway©, Pixon®60, and Talk About AAC. Language packs including vocabulary files and synthesized voices for Hebrew and Arabic are also available. Users can access services and symbol libraries through this feature as well.

Within TouchChat, all vocabulary files are fully customizable, allowing users to personalize pages, grid layouts, buttons, messages, and symbols. When creating new buttons, users have access to over 45 button actions and nearly 40,000 Symbolstix® symbols*. The software also supports the use of existing images or capturing photos using the built-in camera. Furthermore, gestures can be employed to navigate between pages and speak messages, among other functions.

The software offers flexibility in adjusting button activation timing to suit individual needs and capabilities. Users can modify button dwell time, button release time, and configure buttons to activate upon release if desired.

Depending on the device model, TouchChat may support additional access methods such as scanning, head tracking, and eye tracking. These methods may require the purchase of additional hardware.

Text generated with TouchChat can be easily shared on social media platforms or through iMessage®, email, using a wireless connection. Users can generate messages, tap the text window, and select their desired service. Copying text to or from TouchChat to other applications for spoken output is also possible.

TouchChat allows users to program buttons to play audio files from their media library, including music and videos from the device or via a YouTube™ link.

Once programming is complete, vocabulary files can be imported and exported through various methods such as AirDrop, email, iTunes® file sharing, DropBox™, or Google Drive™. Additionally, TouchChat enables users to subscribe to iShare, providing a secure location for storing custom files (please note that this feature is not available for customers residing within the European Union).
